I’ve actually had a copy of The Guide to Getting It On for close to seven years now. It has served as a great resource, reference and just a straight up entertaining read. Unlike a lot of other books about sex this book has a frank, but humorous tone to it. I mean with chapters titles like Nipples, Nipples, Nipples and The Zen of Finger Fucking, you know this book isn’t your standard, stale guide to human sexuality.

Right off the bat with the Alpha Chapter Joannides sets the tone by introducing us to the idea of the Goofy Foot Philosophy“that is doesn’t matter what you’ve got in your pants if there’s nothing in your brain to connect it to.” This tone carries through the entire book. Giving a practical guide to just about every aspect of sex you can think of, from anal sex to family planning and even how to explain sex to kids.

It also features excerpts from Joannides’ weekly column The Naked Truth. One of my favorite one is a letter from a frustrated guy name Randy who had wined and dined a young women, but didn’t get laid. The response to his plea for help began with “You might be confusing romance with prostitution.” I laughed so hard I almost dropped the book.


The book also covers sexual anatomy, delving head long into What’s Inside a Girl? Common myths about women’s sexuality are dispelled and detailed diagrams and explinations of female gentials is laid out alongside beautiful illustrations by the talented Dærick Gröss. Fans of the penis do not despair. The dick gets a spotlight too.

One of my favorite part is the awesomely titled The Zen of Finger Fucking, where an entire chapter is dedicated to digital stimulation. Numerous sources, including interviews from actual women are used to give an informed explanation of “finger fucking” as well as giving tips on how best to bring a woman unbelievable pleasure by using your fingers.

A similar detailed approach is taken with handjobs, oral sex and of course intercourse, or Horizontal Jogging as it is called in the book. There are even chapters on how to masturbate, pick a sex toy, homosexuality, bisexuality and even kink. It even addresses Sex When You’re Horny and Disabled.

The Guide to Getting It On is a great resource for anyone curious about sex. Whether you’re a virgin or an old hat at sex it has something interesting, insightful and down right funny to entertain you.

I'm 27 and I suffer from Stage 4 Endometriosis so sex has always been extremely painful for me. After two unsuccessful lap surgeries and six months of depo-lupron, I opted for a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with BSO. I do not regret my decision because it took care of some other underlying conditions I had, but I fear sex even more now - not just because I've always associated sex with pain, but because I'm so clueless as to how to operate my new body. I'm terrified of the vaginal cuff so is deep penetration safe? Is it ok to use sex toys? How do I avoid tensing up? I desperately want to be intimate with my hubby without holding back. I know you hate the word normal but I feel there is nothing normal about having your insides removed because they were put there for a reason. Is it possible to enjoy sex after a hysterectomy?

Oh, my dear reader, Naughty Nurse Kimpy is so sorry for your predicament. She’ll do her very best to give you some good, honest feedback and advice. Endometriosis is a tough cookie, but if Nurse Kimpy can find a way to make sex enjoyable for you, she will.

Approximately 8.5 million women in North America suffer from endometriosis. Worldwide, the number jumps to 176 million. On average, it takes until women are 27 years old before they receive a definitive diagnosis of endometriosis. The only way to be certain that you have it is via a uterine biopsy. For many women, that adds up to years of pain and frustration before they can get any sort of relief that the diagnosis can provide. However, even with a diagnosis, many doctors merely treat the symptoms--like pelvic pain--with pain relievers and hormones.

Your procedure--Total Abdominal Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy (BSO)--removes the entire uterus, your Fallopian tubes, and your ovaries, along with your cervix. Since your ovaries are responsible for estrogen and progesterone production, when you get them removed, you’ll essentially go through instant menopause, unless your doctor chooses to put you on hormone replacement therapy (HRT). There are risks associated with long-term HRT, but there are also risks for women who go through menopause early in life (increased risk of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis). Be sure you understand the risks posed by both options when you discuss this with your physician, and then advocate for the choice that appeals the most to you. If you hope to have a better, less painful sex life after surgery, HRT is likely your best bet, because it will best way to avoid the vaginal dryness, decrease in sex drive, and painful sex that can often accompany menopause. While you might not be able to have a period post-surgery (hooray!), without HRT you will start to experience hot flashes and dry skin that loses its elasticity. None of these symptoms of menopause are going to help make sex more comfortable for you, which is another reason you might want to opt for HRT.

Is deep penetration safe?

In general, yes, deep penetration into your vagina will be safe, but only after it’s been okayed by your doctor. It needs to be fully healed before really going to town. Nurse Kimpy encourages you and your husband to work your way up slowly. That will not only help to ease your level of anxiety, but also help you feel more in control of the process.

Can I use sex toys?

Again, yes, once you’ve been given the green light by your physician. Be sure that whatever you use, start cautiously and work your way up. And always, always use plenty of lube.

How can I avoid tensing up?

Nurse Kimpy thinks it’s a good idea for you to have some solo sessions under your belt before you dive in with your partner. This gives you a chance to go at your own pace and discover how much pressure you can stand. If you want to begin by simply stimulating your clitoris without any vaginal penetration, go for it. Whatever makes you feel in control of what’s happening. As she stated before, always be sure to use plenty of lube, which will also help to reduce any frictional pain. This will help you to be not only more confident, but more relaxed when you introduce your partner back into the mix.

Once you feel like you might be close to sharing sex with your partner again, Naughty Nurse Kimpy encourages you to introduce epic levels of foreplay into your sexual relationship. Your skin surface is the largest erogenous zone on your body, so use it to your advantage. Allow yourself to be touched everywhere. Don’t leave a single inch of skin untouched. Have your husband rediscover your breasts. Hands, lips, tongues, explore everything. Allow him to get you to the point where you’re desperate to have him touch your lady bits. When you get there, Nurse Kimpy suggests that you shift roles. Instead of your husband being in charge of exploring your body, anything in your lady bits has to go through your approval before anything happens. Take his hand in yours, and show him where to touch you, what kind of pressure to use. With your being in control, you remove an element of fear. That way, you know that nothing will happen that you aren’t directly accepting. Nurse Kimpy isn’t even above having a glass of wine or two to loosen yourself up, which should help to ease your tension as well. This won’t be a long term solution, of course, just for in the beginning as you’re getting used to the idea of reintroducing sex.

Is it possible to enjoy sex after a hysterectomy?

Yes. By all means, yes. In order for you to enjoy it, however, you’re going to need to overcome your fears, which are all completely legitimate, because they’re based upon painful experiences in your past. And please remember that you aren’t on any deadline or clock or anything like that. If your doctor gives you the go-ahead at 4 weeks postoperatively and you in no way feel ready, then you’re not ready. You need to move forward at your own pace if you’re going to be relaxed and at ease about reintroducing sex. If you end up moving too quickly, don’t be hard on yourself. Nurse Kimpy feels certain you can get to a point where sex can actually be enjoyable again.

She’s crafted a story about a 27 year old young woman who’s never had anything but painful sex, Rectified. After a debating with myself for awhile, I finally decided to sit down and write a recommendation for this series. My hesitance comes from knowing that this book is not for everyone. This is one of those books that people either love and treasure or hate with a fiery passion. Don't believe me, check the GoodReads profile. While it is still one of my all time favorite erotic fantasy series, I feel compelled to warn anyone interested in reading these books to be aware that they are not romance or even remotely like any erotica you have ever read. These book take place in a fantasy world without limitations or consequences.

If you have any issues with portrayals of abuse or sexual violence these are not the books for you. The opening scene of the book involves Beauty being “ravished” (a fancy term for non-consensual sex aka rape). Here is a list of a few of the kinks portrayed in these books: sexual slavery, extreme domination, pain play, pony play, public humiliation, spanking (LOTS of spanking), piss play, enemas, fisting and so much more. Now, if I haven’t scared you off let’s get on with the actual recommendation.

The books take place in a lavish, fairy tale world where BDSM kink is interwoven into the culture of a powerful kingdom. It is customary for princes and princess from all across the land to be sent to this kingdom to serve as sex slaves in order to teach them discipline and to better prepare them to be strong, empathetic rulers. Beauty is awaken from her enchanted slumber by the prince of this kingdom. He literally wakes her up with sex, by penetrating her at the same time he kisses her and that pretty much sets the tone for the books.

One of the things I love about the books is the lush fairy tale style in which the story is told. It allows the reader to slip into its reality, despite all the extreme situations. As my warnings at the beginning indicate there is no kinky ground left uncovered in the pages of this series.

In the kingdom sexual slaves are part of everyday life. I do mean every part. From the stables, to the kitchen of a common tavern. Beauty sees other beautiful princes and princess naked, like herself, being made to carry buckets with their mouths and pulling carriages while dressed up like horses. The slaves placement in society is either an honor to their obedience or a punishment for their failure to perform to expectations.

Every aspect of their culture is influenced by the dominance, and submissive dynamics. Punishment is meted out in forms of public humiliation and degradation, while rewards are given in sexual play. Because this is a sadomasochistic society pain and pleasure our intertwined, whether it is reward, punishment or just daily life every breath is filled with sexual sting of erotic torture. The slaves’ nude bodies are decorated with elaborately bejeweled sex toys (buttplugs, nipple clamps and even a weighted clit clamp contraption that to this day still makes me shudder with horror). The purpose of all of it is to keep the slaves aware of what they are and to keep them in a constant state of sexual arousal.

With these details the books continues to weave an intricate world that allows the reader to fall deeper under its spell. That is not to say that we become desensitized to what is happening. In fact, that is one of the most clever strokes of Rice’s storytelling. We, the readers, are anchored to our own sense of discomfort, shock and taboo titillation through the conduit of Beauty. Her naiveté, confusion and fear helps keep us grounded, but it also allows for a deeper exploration of erotism of these scenes.

I love how even when Beauty is crying through her spanking or blushing over exposing her body to other people she is aware of her own arousal, even though she too innocent to truly understand it until later on in the story. Her body's’ reactions are described in details that are easy for the reader to grasp, while still maintaining lavish atmosphere of the story. It is a impressive trick to describe a female bodies' various states of arousal with such graphic detail, while never resorting to crude modern language. Those details allow the reader to truly experience what Beauty does in a very intimate way and that is the key to what is so captivating about these books.

Even though the story is told in the third person, the reader is deeply attuned to Beauty. We travel with her through this foreign kingdom, being shocked and at times horrified by the extreme displays of erotic torture and surprising forms of sexual play laid out in public for all to see. As she comes to understand, though in the beginning she feels humiliated by it, her own body's reaction to all of it.

As the series progresses and Beauty begins to learn more about the sensual world she has been plunged into. We see her character slowly transform into a thoughtful, courageous and bold young woman. Who is deeply in touch with her own desires and is brave enough to help others explore their sexual boundaries too. So too is the reader allowed to embrace their own arousal over the sensual scenarios and come to a place of understanding the boundaries of their own desires.

Anne Rice’s Sleeping Beauty series was published thirty years ago, but it is a timeless erotica classic that is still capturing readers imaginations and fueling their sexual fantasies today. She suspects that because your hormones are now regulating themselves naturally, the daily fluctuations you experience are having other systemic effects such as appetite control (or lack thereof). Give yourself a few months for your body to recalibrate itself. If you continue to experience issues with your appetite, she encourages you to follow up with your doctor to see if something else might going on.

Now, on to your question. There are plenty of reasons why a woman’s cycle might be inconsistent/irregular. Your weight and level of body fat can play a key role. If you’re too thin, or have too little body fat, your periods can stop altogether. Likewise, being too heavy can also cause your hormone levels to be imbalanced. If you aren’t presently at a healthy weight for your height--either too heavy or too light--the best thing you can do is work toward that healthy weight.

Part of the process of achieving a healthy weight is to get regular exercise. Health experts recommend at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. This can also help to relieve your stress levels, which you’ve said has been an issue with your being irregular in the past.

You might want to talk to your gynecologist about herbal remedies that can help to keep your hormone levels more regular. Things like increasing the amount of soy in your diet can make a difference. While there might not be any quick or easy fixes to regulating your periods, if you are patient and focused, you should be able to find something that will at least help you get toward your goal.

Self-publishing websites are encouraging teens and young adults to write and publish poetry to share among their peers. I wrote a good amount of poetry as a teen, and I wish that kind of platform had been around when I was a kid.

Talk to publishers or booksellers about poetry, and you'll hear the same refrain. It's niche, it's difficult to sell - and young people just aren't interested. Look online and you'll see a different picture. More than 20,000 teenagers are writing poetry on the social reading website Wattpad, and over 100,000 are actively reading Wattpad's poems on both web and mobile, while on the young adult community writing site Movellas, there are 20 to 30 new poems uploaded a day, with the most popular read up to 15,000 times, receiving between 20 and 200 comments. That's not a particularly convincing display of indifference.

Poetry can be an outlet and a way for kids to feel like they aren't alone. If you have a teen in your life tell them to check it out. They could be the next Philip Levine or Margaret Atwood.

Russian Meteor Likely an Apollo Asteroid Chunk
This was definitely a "shot heard round the world," and I hope that with this will come understanding that there are things in the universe that could very well extinguish all life on this planet.

Taking its orbit into account, the researchers were able to conclude that the Chelyabinsk-bound meteoroid originated from an Apollo-class asteroid. Apollo asteroids are well-known near-Earth asteroids that cross the orbit of Earth. Around 5,200 Apollo asteroids are currently known, the largest being 1866 Sisyphus — a 10 kilometer-wide monster that was discovered in 1972.

Knowing where this rock came from could help us identify the next threat in time to do something about it.

Okay, warning. My question involves a slight bit of complaining about something most would never think of. From what I've read and heard from my friends, orgasms tend to be amazeballs and then just sort of die off, but mine (99% clitoral orgasms) are almost always so strong that I can't physically stand up after, and usually end up having aftershocks of sorts where it feels like I'm coming down from my orgasm, and then it shoots right back up, to the point where I'm physically shaking, then it'll die down again and repeat. While normal is just a setting on the dryer, the way you experience such intense orgasms all the time is unusual. Not abnormal, but certainly among the minority of women. The most important thing is to find the right physician with whom you can share your experience. The last thing Nurse Kimpy wants is for your genuine concern to be met with professional skepticism. It’s important for you to be taken seriously. There is a list of doctors around the globe who deal with PSAS patients. Boston University’s School of Medicine has a Center for Sexual Medicine that helps people deal with PSAS. Nurse Kimpy suspects that even if you don’t live near Boston, they could probably help you find a physician near you who can give you some assistance. She isn’t trying to imply that you have PSAS, but rather that a physician who is trained to see PSAS as a serious problem would be the best type of physician to help you with your unique problem. My question is a little embarrassing and probably a little weird but... I hope people won't laugh as it's a real problem for me. The man who was abandoned by his entire family, and then loses everyone who then became his true family. In other words an extremely devastating, handsome, charming, world weary and world wise man. This is the perfect foil for Hermione. Hermione who despite DH has a reputation for being books rather than street smart. Hermione who everyone thinks should and will live her life by the book and to the letter. PS: I am a Sirius slut. :) I do not picture him as Gary Oldman. Instead I picture him as Viggo Mortensen - in a similiar look to his Aragon from LOTR. Rarrrrr!


A long & Winding Road by Ceredwen
This pairing might not seem to work on paper... Hermione who lobbies for House - elves to be free and Sirius who believes they are there to serve him as tradition states. Sirius who takes, and Hermione who gives and yet personally demands so much of herself. They play off of one another perfectly and Hermione’s slightly prudish and rule-abiding reputation are the perfect foil to rule-breaker extraordinaire Sirius. I have to be honest and say that I used to despise this pairing, only at the thought of them. A dear friend made me read an author (who focuses on this pairing) and I am SO very glad I did. Once I read some I was hooked.
This fic is so beautifully written. This author writes this pairing with pure heart and soul. All her Sirius/Hermione fics are pure gold. In this fic? Sirius and Hermione are the only ones who can provide what the other needs. But Sirius is bitter and resigned and Hermione? Hermione is indifferent and repressed. This fic has AMAZING UST. Sizzling. Great tension and such good writing! Please give this author and pairing a try.

We view the unfolding of Luna’s little party game from Harry’s nervous POV and experience much of his confusion. Still we are able to see Luna’s subtle, clever humor and unflappable confidence that shows why she is the epitome of a Ravenclaw. We see how Luna would be the perfect partner for post-war Harry, because she would give him peace and teach him how to have fun again. Also, the foreplay and sex if fucking insanely hot.

Tonks/Snape - The epitome of Opposites Attract. There aren’t many fics for these two, and what a shame, ‘cause with all the potential for witty/snarky banter and ridiculous clumsy accidents the romantic comedy fic would write it’s self.

Two sides, equal and opposite, like the sun and the moon having a love affair. *swoon*

Harry/Draco - The most popular slash pairing in the HP fandom. While there are easily hundreds of sexy well written fics, right now we’re just going to give you a taste.

On a Clear Day by Sara’s Girl
This is a beautiful post war fic, that shows us the price of redemption and the unlikely future of a hero. Draco’s internal monologue is at once hilarious and so fucking endearing that you fall in love with him in a matter of a few paragraphs. We see the story entirely from his point of view, making us follow along while he sorts out the mystery of Harry’s self-imposed isolation. The banter in this is priceless and lends to the subtle, slow build of sexual tension. This story is more a romance, but trust me when they finally come together it is in-fucking-tense.

Hexed! by Randominity - A hex gone awry on the train to Hogwarts leaves Draco pregnant and Harry soon to be a father. I love the way that Randominity handles this as it made Mpreg seem not only possible, but plausible. Magic is such a fun plot device like that. Hexed! explores the complications of the unexpected pregnancy, one of which is attraction between our main characters. Draco remains very masculine despite his vulnerability, which is a breath of fresh air in mpreg fic. Such a sexy, sweet read.

Kiss A Boy in London Town by Femme
It isn’t that much of a stretch to imagine Draco Malfoy turning to prostitution after all of this other prospects dry up after the conclusion of the war, is it? Willing to do anything to provide for his family and protect the Malfoy name, Draco is unapologetic for his choice in careers, and as his nature dictates, has simply decided to be the absolute best in his field. A couple of well-practiced glamors and a false name hide his true identity from his clients, and when Harry shows up for “Toby’s” professional services, Draco is able to see a side of Harry he never expected.

Harry’s inexperience with men gives Draco ample opportunity to teach him a few things, making for some dirty exploratory smut while these two try to avoid their burgeoning feelings. Such a unique setting to bring these two together in, and a showcase for Draco snark.

James had been after lily for ages, and she's just not bothered. Then he gets a girlfriend and now she is.... Why has he suddenly given up on her, weren’t they meant to be? Even if she doesn’t give him any sort of nod.... So now he has moved on. Or has he? This is a great fic. LOTS of fun, with tension and UST. Oh and my favourite - LOTS of sneaking off to dark castle corners....

Remus/Sirius - This pairing? This pairing, could so easily be canon... Just reread/rewatch POA. That scene in the Shack? Their reunion. Yeah right. There is more history than their shared loss in that exchange. And come-on! You know what public school boys in boarding school are like... The exploration, the experimentation. But more than that. These two had a special animal marauder bond. Nuff said.

It Was Only A Kiss by remuslives23
This is a classic fic that could be canon. Sort of. Its also a rare thing. Its a happy slash fic. For this pairing, there are MANY MANY rip-your-heart out type fics - due to the plight of The Marauders and the time in British Society the boys ‘come-out’. But in this story, the angst is minimal. This fic captures the humour of The Marauders, whilst touching on really important factors for the four of them. In particular, Remus’s ‘furry problem’, Sirius’s dark-hearted family, and how the four boys have their special transformations. Additionally though it has a beautiful love story stemming from an important friendship. Plus I LOVE how in this Remus’s transformation affects his libido and his dominance in bed!

I know not all of our readers are American, but this documentary (though not without issues) chronicles the women's movement from its birth to present. It's a fascinating, though not comprehensive, look at "herstory" and worth watching. There were a great deal of things that I had no idea about, and women whose names should be more well known. 5 Disorders Share Genetic Risk Factors, Study Finds
Five different disorders - schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, autism, major depression and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder - share "genetic glitches" that can end up leading to mental illness. As someone who deals with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder I know how hard it can be to have brain chemistry that is atypical. More and more studies are showing links to genetics and brain chemistry, and many disorders are now able to be diagnosed using these newly discovered tangible markers.

The new study does not mean that the genetics of psychiatric disorders are simple. Researchers say there seem to be hundreds of genes involved and the gene variations discovered in the new study confer only a small risk of psychiatric disease. [Emphasis mine, BJR70]

While preliminary these results may lead to the development of better drugs that will offer more people more effective treatment. Good news indeed.

Are Women Having Too Many C-Sections in the United States?
Cesearean sections are becoming increasingly common in the United States and other Western countries. With this increase comes possible complications and future health implications. Researchers are now looking at why the procedures are on the rise, and the effects unnecessary procedures can have on mother and baby. I'm not a mom, and I've never been pregnant, but I think this article is definitely worth a read.

It's the overuse of cesarean delivery in the absence of an identifiable health risk that's the growing concern. First, these elective C-sections seem to be the result of doctor recommendations, rather than patient requests. A 2008 study by Marian MacDorman and Eugene Declercq noted that "Increases in primary cesareans in cases of ‘no indicated risk' have been more rapid than in the overall population and seem the result of changes in obstetric practice rather than changes in the medical risk profile or increases in ‘maternal request.'"

Clearly there will always be cases where a cesearean section is necessary for the life of mother and child. That said, all families should be fully informed before making any decisions on major procedures if it's not a medical emergency. Birth in this country is increasingly seen as a "medical condition" as opposed to a natural process, and that may not be a good thing.

Documentary filmmaker Therese Shechter's latest film is called "How to Lose Your Virginity" and is about the obsession with female virginity, and examines what the very real cultural consequences of the concept. I'm a Kickstarter backer of the film, and the link above is to my "First Person" account of how I lost my virginity. I encourage all of you to visit the site, check out the clips, and maybe even submit your own "First Person" story. There are as many stories as there are women, and they range from funny to sad and everything in between.

In a culture where artificial hymens sell on the internet for $30, and "Be sexy, but don't have sex" is the overwhelming message to young women, the film goes through the looking glass to understand a milestone almost everyone thinks about but no one actually understands.

I can't wait to see the finished film. What does virginity mean to you? In answering that question myself in telling my story, I realized that I'm not really sure either.

Human sexuality is naturally promiscuous, primarily amorous
Christopher Ryan, PhD Psychology, has been looking at human's closest relatives - bonobos and chimps - and how their sexuality may mirror our own. Bonobos in particular are known for their "social sex" sharing partners in both hetero- and homosexual relations.

Ryan argued that human sexuality evolved to function first and foremost as a bonding function, with reproduction being secondary (note this is sexuality, and not sex itself). This would mean that humans are indeed very similar to chimps and bonobos, which use sex for social purposes. Bonobos take socially driven sex to an extreme, in both hetero- and homosexual ways.

In looking at monogamy, Ryan theorizes that it came into society much later as humans evolved the concept of property and inheritance. Our sexuality is far more complex and nuanced than the current social constructs might suggest. The suggestion that we must "cease to conflate desires with property rights" may seem controversial to some, but it might get us closer to how humans evolved to experience sex and sexuality.

In protest of the Boy Scouts of America's discriminatory practices toward gays and lesbians (as troop leaders) both Carly Rae Jepson and Train have pulled out of a concert at the annual Jubilee. Both acts did so in response to a Change.org petition by Eagle Scout Derek Nance. Just one more example of what one person speaking out and starting something can do.

'Ender's Game': How Author Orson Scott Card's Anti-Gay Views Could Affect Its Success

Orson Scott Card's personal politics, and his position with the National Organization for Marriage have led to controversy both in the movie world and the comics world, where OSC has been tapped to write an issue of America's beloved Superman.
At what point does an artist's or author's personal or political beliefs influence how you think of them? Will it stop you from buying their work? I admit I'm on the fence here, and I don't yet know if I'll see "Ender's Game" or not. We'll see.

Sometimes I don’t want to read a full length book. I don’t want romance. I just want to read about sex. That is not to say I don’t still want a believable, realistic and engaging erotic story. Ravage Me gave me exactly what I wanted and realistic BDSM sex to boot.

It is one part of an ongoing series of BDSM themed erotic shorts stories, though it stands on it’s own. While it is short (25 pages) it delivers all the title promises and more within those few pages. Oh boy does it deliver, just look at the note in the summary about the explicit content. Oh yeah.

I’m not going to mince words. This isn’t a romance or for the new comers to BDSM. Mich Masoch presents a no-holds barred peek into a night in the life of a submissive. The story is told in the first person, like an open letter to her master where she recalls a wild night of play that ends with triple penetration scene that will take your breath away.

Despite the fact that I said this isn’t a romance there is love between this submissive and her master. They have some adorable exchanges, snarky banter and even a Harry Potter joke that made me laugh out loud. Their cheeky exchanges are interwoven with the Dominant/submissive play to produce one of the most realistic portrayals of a BDSM relationship in action.

While the word “slut” is littered throughout the story I never felt turned off by it’s use, but rather through the skillful narrative we are allowed to view it as the submissive does; a badge of honor. She is his slut. To be used however he wishes and for his own pleasure. Through this act of submissive she finds unbelievable pleasure.

Despite the humor and realism, this is a sexual submissive fantasy. There is no preamble about safe words, or limits to slow down the momentum of the story. However, the way the story is presented it is clear they have an established trust and are comfort with what occurs. So even when the story comes to its climax there is no concerns about consent, but rather we see her happily give herself over to the fantasy they've created and the pleasure it brings.

Again this book isn’t for everyone. However, if you’re looking for a believable BDSM fantasy that’s sexy, intense and quick to read Ravage Me just might be the book for you. I know it was for me. I will definately be buying the other parts of this sexy series and hoping that Mich Masoch keeps writing.

Hey NNK! I just wanted to start off by saying I love your columns! My question deals with Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs). I'm no stranger to them unfortunately. The feeling of having to go all the time and then when you do it hurts a lot. I was just wondering if you could give some ideas of things to avoid in order to not get a UTI. I also had an issue the other day where I had one and I took the medication and it went away, a few days later it came back though I had not even done anything to cause myself to have one. I was just wondering if you have any tips for me that if I got one an easy way to get rid of it besides medication? Thanks so much!

Naughty Nurse Kimpy has one very, very important word for you to remember: CRANBERRIES. When it comes to UTIs, cranberries are your new BFF. There’s something about their level of acidity that keep the bladder healthy, and thus keeps UTIs away. Nurse Kimpy encourages you to either start drinking cranberry juice, or taking cranberry pill supplements, every day. In fact, your very own Nurse Kimpy used to get UTIs all the time, but hasn’t had one in years, and she’s convinced it’s due to cranberries.

When you get a UTI, you will need to get an antibiotic to cure the infection. While you’d prefer a choice that doesn’t include medication, that’s just not an option. It’s the kind of thing that won’t go away on its own, and can end up causing a kidney infection, which is far more serious. Starting tomorrow, either drink your cranberry juice or take your cranberry supplements daily, drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day, and promptly seek medical treatment when you get a UTI. Is is normal for a woman to constantly have sexual thoughts? Even in the most inappropriate situations?

This is Ask Naughty Nurse Kimpy, and when you’re here, normal is nothing more than a setting on the dryer. The range of difference and complexity between humans is enormous, so there is no such thing as normal. Now, about those sexual thoughts... yes, women can constantly have sexual thoughts, just the same as men. It’s an unfortunate stereotype that all men are sex-obsessed pervs, and all women want to avoid sex. The bottom line is that humans--men and women-- are, by nature, sexual creatures. We’re one of the few animals that have sex for fun rather than procreation (along with dolphins and bonobo monkeys). There is little research that proves men think about sex more often than women do. While that is often reported to be the case, there is little hard scientific evidence to back up those claims; it’s more urban legend than it is actual science.

While you’re concerned over having sexual thoughts in “inappropriate situations,” Nurse Kimpy is here to explain that it happens to all of us at some point in our lives. Is it distracting? Yes. Is it embarrassing? Perhaps. Is it avoidable? No. Sexual thoughts pop in and out of our heads all day long. Sometimes, they happen in a place and time that is inconvenient, but that’s just the way thoughts work. What’s interesting is that research has shown that individuals who have a high degree of comfort with their sexuality (called erotophilia) tend to report having more sexual thoughts.

While it might feel like you’re constantly having sexual thoughts, let’s try to put it into perspective. It seems more likely that you’re preoccupied or bothered by having sexual thoughts, perhaps because you feel that it’s abnormal. Take a step back and consider how often you have other thoughts, like about food, or about sleep. Nurse Kimpy imagines that you probably have more thoughts about food than you do about sex, but food isn’t an emotionally charged idea in your head, so you make no note of the frequency of those thoughts.

All that being said, there are some individuals who suffer from genuine sexual obsessions, which is a form of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Obsessions are defined as

“thoughts, images, or ideas that won’t go away, are unwanted, and are extremely distressing or worrying.”

In this form of OCD, the sexual thoughts don’t just occur frequently, they’re also disturbing in nature to the individual having them. For example, these are obsessive sexual thoughts that include topics like sexual abuse, incest, bestiality, sexual orientation, or violent sexual behavior. They definitely aren’t fantasies, which tend to be pleasurable and desirable, designed to arouse us. Obsessions are not only upsetting and unwanted, but also rarely cause sexual arousal.

Before you diagnose yourself with sexual OCD, please know that it’s very rare. About 1 in 100 people (around 2-3 million adults in the U.S.) have OCD. Of those 2-3 million adults, anywhere from 6-24% have sexual OCD. If you feel as though your “constant sexual thoughts” are more likely obsessions, Nurse Kimpy encourages you to seek professional help. There are very effective ways to treat OCD via medications and therapies. Some great resources for more information include: the OCD Foundation, NAMI, and the National Institute of Mental Health.
